Announcing a Spooky, Scary Newsletter—Coming Soon!
Scare Me! is an outpouring of my love for horror.
Hi again,
It’s been nearly five years since I last popped into your inbox. Back then, I was writing a weekly history newsletter called Scavenger and publishing a zine called Summerhouse. I had the desperate, defiant energy people in their mid-twenties are sometimes possessed by. Now, I’m suddenly 32 and firmly in a different stage of life. When did that happen? Do the last handful of years feel like a flash-forward to you, too?
I’m writing to you now, out of the blue, to share a new project I’m launching next week.
Scare Me! is an outpouring of my love for horror. It’s a weekly newsletter that celebrates the catharsis of horror, reflects on the books and movies that make me shudder…and might even tell a ghost story or two. Occasional guest authors may pay your inbox a visit, and I’ll publish interviews with the indie horror creators who inspire me.
And of course, there will be original illustrations, this time by supremely talented Sam Pugh:
This project is quite different from Scavenger and Summerhouse, but there will be similarities, too. I still love DIY media, still love getting lost in research rabbit holes, and still feel curious about the world. If you caught my Smithsonian feature about the history of Scream, you’ll get a feel for what this newsletter will be.
Horror fans, I invite you to join me! If horror isn’t your jam, but you know someone who might enjoy this project, it would mean so much to me if you’d consider sending this their way.
